President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that over 2,800 soldiers will assist police during the upcoming general elections in South Africa. The soldiers will support police efforts to prevent crime and maintain order. Police Minister Bheki Cele warned against disruptive protests and emphasized law enforcement’s readiness to address hotspots, including areas in KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, and Mpumalanga. IEC Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo urged vigilance while respecting legal boundaries, noting incidents of unlawful interference with election operations.
