Biden to Address Health Concerns in High-Stakes ABC Interview Amid Campaign Pressure

President Joe Biden, working to address concerns over his recent debate performance, will participate in a television interview on Friday. This appearance will be closely monitored for any signs of mental decline.

Biden is set to visit Madison, Wisconsin, to energize Democratic voters. During his visit, he will be interviewed by ABC News as part of a series of events intended to demonstrate his capability to compete against Republican candidate Donald Trump in the upcoming November election.

Despite Biden’s assertions that he remains healthy and committed to the race, there is significant pressure for him to step aside in favor of his 59-year-old vice president, Kamala Harris. Some donors have expressed their dissatisfaction by withholding funding or considering other Democratic options. Notably, even close political allies like former Speaker Nancy Pelosi have raised concerns about his health.

Several public opinion polls indicate that Trump has gained a considerable lead over Biden since the debate. A Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed that one in three Democrats want Biden to withdraw from the race. The White House has attributed Biden’s debate performance to a cold and jet lag from recent European trips.

The ABC interview is expected to feature unscripted remarks from Biden, who frequently uses a Teleprompter for his public speeches.

At a Fourth of July celebration on the White House South Lawn, Biden quickly responded to a supporter who urged him to “keep up the fight” by saying, “You got me, man. I’m not going anywhere.”

Harris is seen as a strong potential successor should Biden choose to exit the race, although his supporters believe he can still address voters’ and donors’ concerns. Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign and his allies have preemptively targeted Harris, attempting to undermine her amid speculation that she could replace Biden as the Democratic nominee.

The Biden campaign continues to push forward, announcing plans to spend $50 million on a media campaign in July. This campaign will include strategic advertisements during major events like the 2024 Olympic Games and the Republican National Convention.

Trump, 78, who made several false statements during the Atlanta debate, falsely claimed in a circulated video that he had forced Biden out of the race. He also made disparaging comments about Harris in the same video, which his campaign defended.
