Ioan Pintaru, a 32-year-old man, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, facing charges of attempted murder and possession of a bladed weapon. This incident involved an 11-year-old girl who was stabbed in central London.
The attack occurred in Leicester Square, where the girl was with her mother. Pintaru allegedly approached the girl, put her in a headlock, and stabbed her multiple times. The injuries were inflicted on her face, shoulder, wrist, and neck.
Earlier reports suggested that the girl’s mother, aged 34, had also been injured, but the police later clarified that the blood on her was from her daughter’s injuries, not her own. The girl remains in the hospital and is expected to undergo plastic surgery due to the severity of her wounds.
Pintaru, who is a Romanian citizen without a permanent address, was charged less than a day after the incident. The court was informed that the mother and daughter were tourists in the area at the time of the attack.
