Manhattan Prosecutors Agree to Delay Sentencing in Trump’s Hush Money Trial

Manhattan prosecutors announced on Tuesday that they will not contest Donald Trump’s request to postpone the sentencing in his hush money trial. Trump is seeking to have his conviction overturned following a Supreme Court ruling that provided extensive immunity protections to presidents.

In a letter to the New York court, prosecutors from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office indicated their willingness to accept a two-week delay in the sentencing, originally scheduled for July 11, to allow them time to respond to Trump’s motions.

“Although we do believe the case to be without merit, we do not oppose his request” to delay the sentencing while the motion is considered, the prosecutors wrote.

This letter was submitted a day after Trump’s attorney requested the judge to postpone the sentencing to evaluate the Supreme Court’s decision and its potential impact on the New York case.

The defense team argues that the Supreme Court’s decision supports their earlier stance that prosecutors should have been barred from presenting certain evidence, which the Trump team claims included official presidential acts, as per the letter.

If the delay is granted, the sentencing decision would be postponed until after the Republican National Convention, set to begin in Milwaukee on July 15. This means that Trump, currently the presumptive GOP nominee, could be chosen as the Republican presidential candidate while his sentencing outcome remains uncertain.

Trump’s campaign did not immediately provide a comment.
