Britain’s Prince William attended a significant gathering of green entrepreneurs in London on Thursday, hosted by his charity, Earthshot. This organization, established in 2020, offers multi-million-pound prizes to support innovative environmental technologies. The event highlighted William’s enduring commitment to conservation and sustainability, a passion influenced by his father, King Charles, and his late grandfather, Prince Philip.
At the event, Prince William engaged with beneficiaries of Earthshot’s environmental funding and key figures like billionaire philanthropist and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, as well as British actress Hannah Waddingham. The discussions focused on the prize’s progress and its future ambitions. William emphasized his desire to be a driving force in achieving net zero emissions, noting that Earthshot was created in response to what he saw as a lackluster global leadership in addressing climate change.
The Earthshot name is inspired by the ambitious “Moonshot” project of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, which led to the 1969 moon landings. William’s vision is to channel this same level of ambition and urgency into solving the planet’s environmental challenges.
The event took place at the Sky Garden, a public space on the 35th floor of a building in London’s financial district. Notably, William attended without his wife, Catherine, who is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. During this challenging time, William has adapted to attending public events solo. Just last week, he was seen at a London concert of U.S. music star Taylor Swift with their two children, Charlotte and George.
Prince William’s involvement in the Earthshot event underscores his dedication to environmental causes and his proactive approach in mobilizing support for innovative solutions to the climate crisis.
